SHIO KARATE-DO
(pronounced: shee-o)
A hybrid martial art, rooted in Shotokan, founded and operated by Katherine Sanson, Sensei since May 2008.
Sensei Sanson's mission for the last 12 years has been to bring an individual's awareness into the present moment through karate-do.
We ALL have the keys to unlock the secrets of the universe, to rise to our full individual potential, to succeed in all areas of life, and to endeavor in our own personal growth. This is the right of ever living being.
At SHIO KARATE CLUB
we accomplish this through the FOLLOW KEY elements of karate-do:
KIHON (fundamentals/basics) blocks, punches, strikes & kicks
KATA (forms) patterns of movement depicting a fight against multiple opponents
BONKAI(application) combination of techniques used in self-defense
KIME (focus) bringing one's awareness into present moment
ZAZEN (meditation) letting go of thought creating balance in the mind, body, & spirit

I-SHIN is a worldwide karate organization originating in Berlin, Germany in the early 1970's. I-SHINHonbu is located in Delray Beach, FL AND IS LED BY WORLD RENOUNED SHIHAN BERNIE HARTMANN.

In 2008, Sensei Kate knocked on many doors to find a location for a family karate club. Pastor Carla and the church committe at
St. John's United Methodist Church in Hope, NJ allowed us this privilege.
On May 15, 2008 SHIO KARATE CLUB was born an opened its doors to all that were interested in karate training. We are a small family dojo offering an affordable place to learn karate that has been passed to us by Sensei Funakoshi.
We teach many techniques incorporating personal safety, awareness and in self-defense.
Our main goal is to avoid conflict as the true martial artist will never need to use their skill.
This is the true secret of the greatest masters.

In August of 2008, I had the distinct pleasure of working with long time friend and karate brother, Sensei Adam Casinha. We have trained together since 1996.
Together we created Shio Karate Club's Kata Archive which is now used on a regular basis on by many students Shotokan Students ! Sensei Adam's 30+ years of international martial art experience encourages many to continue their karate-do!
